This is becoming one of my favorite topics to blog about. I love searching for old photos of famous educated people and sharing them with you. Today’s topic is Hollywood. See where some of your (and my) favorite actors went to college and what major caught their attention. You might be surprised to find out who actually completed their degrees and who made the all important career move and chose to follow their acting career rather than finish their degree.
As a child Julia Roberts wanted to be a veterinarian. She attended Georgia State University before joining her brother in New York where she pursued her acting and modeling careers.
Brad Pitt attended the University of Missouri and Columbia. His chosen major was journalism with a focus in advertising. While in college he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. His plan was to be an art director but he left his studies one paper shy of his degree.
As a young child Anne Hathaway wanted to become a nun but while attending Vassar College she chose to major in English. She spent many semesters there before transferring to New York University’s Gallatin School for Individualized Study.
As a young man, Denzel Washington had dreams of attending Texas Tech University because their school mascot and uniforms were the same as those he wore at his high school. However he attended Fordham University in 1977 where he earned his B.A in Drama and Journalism. He later attended graduate school at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. He only studied for one year before returning to New York to begin his professional acting career.
Tom Hanks studied theater at Chabot College in Hayward California for two years and then transferred to California State University in Sacramento. While studying theater there he met Vincent Dowling, a producer and director that convinced Hanks to do an internship. Such a large commitment required that he drop out of college.
