Sharks are so incredible, but which sharks are the best? Based on numbers by the ReefQuest Centre for Shark Research, we’ve declared winners in several categories. In addition to the awards listed above here are a few more honorable mentions:

Largest Teeth (relative to size) Largetooth Cookiecutter Lower teeth proportionally twice as large as in White Shark
Least Specialized Diet (stomach contents) Tiger Shark Feeds on almost anything it can swallow
Most Poisonous Flesh (causing illness) Greenland Shark Must be boiled in several changes of water before eating
Showiest Leaping Shark Spinner Shark Spins on its axis, 2 to 4 times in mid-air

One interesting item of note is that Manta Rays are closely related to sharks and can jump as high as Mako Sharks (20 ft in the air). Who knew?

I know. The honorable mention should go to the frilled shark who stays pregnant for 3.5 years. So it has that pregnant glow for long periods of time. So glowy.

My favorite is “Most Glowy.”  I mean, really… where else can you give such an award?  Awesome.
