According to the school, Albion College offers a strong liberal arts curriculum with a purposeful focus on professional preparation in law, medicine, education, business management, and the sciences. Our students apply what they learn in the classroom through research experiences, internships in business, government, and nonprofit settings, and involvement in campus organizations. As a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest athletic conference in America, and NCAA Division III, a strong tradition of developing scholar-athletes continues as over 30% of all full-time students participate in varsity athletics. A 144-acre preserve with nature trails and an interpretive center is located adjacent to campus along the Kalamazoo River. Recently, the College opened the Held Equestrian Center on 340-acres immediately south of the main campus.

Reasons to Attend
Comments about Albion College:
I selected Albion College because it was relatively close to home, had a respected academic reputation, offered ample financial assistance and provided personal attention and small class sizes. I also chose it because it provided excellent options for study abroad programs at no additional cost.
My impressions of Albion College come from my experiences as a student there from 2004-2008. It is my understanding that they have changed many things since I left, including that they now charge additional fees for study abroad programs, which they did not used to do. There has also been a lot of investment in the sciences and very little in the humanities. Unfortunately, many great professors have left in recent years, and even tenured professors were let go. Also, there was a minor scandal some years back when it was discovered that alumni giving rates were inflated by the administration, which had given the college an elevated ranking on national college reviews.
In general, this is a great little liberal arts school with plenty of rigor and opportunities, but there are some issues with management in the administration that might lead to continuing problems in enrollment, retention, and the overall reputation of the school.
The slogan of Albion College, when I was studying there, was "Liberal Arts at Work". Many of my classmates will joke about the irony of that phrase when many are unemployed or underemployed. But that is the reality of those who entered the job market during one of the worst economic downturn in generations...
I would recommend Albion College only if I felt that that particular person would enjoy a small-town, personalized college experience that allowed them to pursue various interests and create a unique experience for themselves. If not, go to a state school!
