Alverno College, a four-year independent, Catholic, liberal arts college for women, exists to promote the personal and professional development of its students. The college has earned accolades and respect internationally for its highly effective ability-based, assessment-as-learning approach to education. Alverno has consulted with three U.S. presidential administrations on accountability and outcomes in higher education. Educators from throughout the world visit Alverno to learn about its proven, student-centered teaching methods. \r\n\r\nIn fall of 2009, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan touted Alverno as an educational institution that excels in preparing teachers. In addition, Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle visited the College to highlight its innovative teacher programs and the importance of developing great teachers for tomorrow. \r\n\r\nThe Alverno environment actively engages students in their education through hands-on practical learning. Its highly developed off-campus internship program is woven into the curriculum and provides students professional support in their educational endeavors. This support includes a professional advising office and a fully staffed career education center. Alverno College also hosts a Diagnostic Digital Portfolio — an Alverno-patented, first-of-its-kind Web-based system which helps students process the feedback they receive from faculty, external assessors and peers. \r\n\r\nAlverno offers more than 35 major program areas of study, including graduate programs in education, nursing and business that are open to women and men. \r\n\r\nFor more information about Alverno, visit our Web site at www.alverno.edu or call us at 1-800-933-3401.\r\n

Reasons to Attend
Comments about Alverno College:
I attended the weekend college program. I was able to work full time and go to school every other weekend, it worked out great for my lifestyle, that was the biggest reason why I picked Alverno.
First, the teachers there are beyond amazing. Each one takes times to get to know the students and really becomes a part of their life. The classes are small, less than 30 students so you really connect with the teachers and students.
Second, even though I was working full time and going to school full time, I had time to get involved in school. There are so many different clubs and activities going on, that it is so easy to find something.
Third, the community feeling of the school is awesome. The women that go there really respect each other and are always there for one another. I have never been close to women in my life but I graduated with so many life long friends.
