Massage Therapy-Associate
The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Massage Therapy was designed meet the requirements in the Ohio Administrative Code as set forth by the State Medical Board.
Course instruction includes:
- Anatomy and Physiology, including pathology
- Professionalism and legal issues, including scope of practice, AMTA Professional Ethics, standards of practices, business practices and client education
- Massage procedures, including describing and performing primary massage procedures and their respective subdivisions such as touch, friction, kneading, joint movements, percussion, vibration, stroking and stretching. Students also learn the physiological effects and therapeutic applications for each of the massage procedures and their respective subdivisions
- Hygiene and sanitation, including universal precautions, therapeutic environment, hydrotherapy, and pharmacology
The program covers a variety of therapeutic modalities including Swedish, Pregnancy, Shiatsu, Hot Stone, Deep Tissue, Thai, Sports Massage, and Myofascial Release.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the Ohio licensure examination or a national certification examination.
