Founded in 1907, the school has two campuses, one in San Francisco and one in Oakland, and offers 21 undergraduate and seven graduate programs in the areas of fine arts, architecture, design, and writing. The college offers bachelor of architecture, bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, master of architecture, master of arts, master of business administration, and master of fine arts degrees. More than 1,800 full-time students are currently enrolled. At CCA, students make art that makes a difference. They develop their individual voices and styles as part of a dynamic conversation that engages global currents of thought and practice. Their work is informed by a multidisciplinary context in which crossing boundaries is encouraged and celebrated. The faculty, a diverse group of nationally and internationally known artists, architects, designers, and writers who are active in their respective fields, support students in their explorations while challenging them to take risks, clarify and deepen their processes of inquiry, and refine their techniques. Visiting artists and scholars bring fresh perspectives through stimulating lectures and studio visits. Noted alumni include the painters Nathan Oliveira and Raymond Saunders; the ceramicists Robert Arneson, Viola Frey, and Peter Voulkos; the filmmaker Wayne Wang; the conceptual artists David Ireland and Dennis Oppenheim; and the designers Lucille Tenazas and Michael Vanderbyl.
