Comments about Community College of Baltimore County:
Reputable animation programs are hard to come by out East (aside from NY or Florida), so I treated CCBC as a stepping stone for a year to get to another institution with a more established program. The best thing about it, though? I really enjoyed my general classes at CCBC, had a 4.0 GPA, and learned from a very diverse student body. All things that are not benefits at my current University.
The Owings Mills extension center (although a little homely) serves it's function really well, and the Catonsville campus has historic buildings that are incredible!
I didn't need the big name of schools like Johns Hopkins, and since I lived in Baltimore County, tuition was extra inexpensive for me at CCBC. I signed up thinking it would be a simple "means to an end" of an educational experience, but I was really pleasantly surprised with the authenticity and passion of the instructors.
I learned so much from my experiences (both in and out of classes) at CCBC. It's the best way to start college. It really is a hidden gem within academia!
