One of the factors that buoy a student’s choice is the college’s low tuition costs. In a study done by USNews.com, Dixie State was ranked first in the state of Utah and third in the nation among public higher education institutions in terms of lowest in-state tuition and fees in 2005-06. The college currently resides in one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the United States. DSC’s nursing program recently achieved the highest pass rate on the RN licensure exam among all university and college programs in Utah for the third consecutive year. Its dental hygiene students consistently score among the top 10 percent on national board exams and collectively received the highest score in the nation on their national boards in 2004. The college’s achievements in athletics have made the college nationally renowned in many circles. Given its new academic mission, DSC athletics transitioned from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division II competition in 2006-07. \r\n\r\nThe college is firmly committed to the cultural arts. It provides many cultural opportunities for the community, many of which are now showcased in the college’s brand new Eccles Fine Arts Center. The college also sponsors a Celebrity Concert Series, the annual Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show, the Southwest Symphony and Chorale and the Tanner Amphitheater Summer Concert Series at the mouth of nearby Zion National Park.\r\n

Comments about Dixie State College of Utah:
I selected Dixie State College because I lived in St. George at the time. The tuition was affordable and I knew many of the people that attended Dixie at that time. Dixie State College has continued to grow since I graduated in 1982. It now has many more programs and classes.
I loved Dixie because of the small town feel and the small college that it was at that time. It was nice to go to a junior college right out of high school. It was more personal and easier to adjust.
Dixie College had great instructors and great classes. I also love the city of St. George in southern Utah. The city has also grown along with the college. It has a lot to offer in recreation, arts, shopping, and climate. If you can survive the August heat...you can survive anything!
Pros
- Affordable tuition
- Great instructors
- Lots of social activity

Comments about Dixie State College of Utah:
I selected this school because of how easy it was to get approved for a scholarship with my GPA. Other schools you had to have a super high to even get looked at. Dixie didn't have that problem. I was able to get all of my general ed classes out of the way and I was able to do it really cheep. Almost free. When I was done all the schools I looked at to continue my education would take all my class credits. Once I did get to my next school the friends I met couldn't believe how much I paid for all my general ed courses. They did all their generals at bigger schools.
Dixie is also somewhat known as a party school. There is a lot going on. If that is up your ally and you need to get your generals done go to Dixie State.

Comments about Dixie State College of Utah:
I found DSC to be very straight forward. When one showed up for class, and did the homework and studying required, passing with good grades seemed almost inevitable. The instructors were very diverse in methods and teaching styles, which I enjoyed. Also, there are many scholarship options available, as well as student loans and financing. In all my trips to counselors and advisors, I felt validated, acknowledged, and sincerely attended to. The town of St. George provided a large variety of cultural events, exposing it's attendants to art, sports, history, and a broad range of other fun and/or educational opportunities.

Comments about Dixie State College of Utah:
I was recruited to this school to play volleyball. I should say that this school was only a 2 year school when I attended and is now a 4 year State College. I enjoyed the "big fish in small pond" feeling. I loved that there were several national parks and recreation areas within a short distance of the school which allowed for all kinds of new experiences. My goal for attending this school at the time was to attain an Associates Degree that would transfer to several major universities and it did just that.
The weather was interesting. Great winters, crazy hot summers! Saint George was much smaller when I attended and has grown a great deal since I was there, however you still get the small town feeling from the area. The school also hosted and sponsored several events that would appeal to everyone and allowed participation with the student body as well as the community.
The instructors were great and went out of their way to help master the material for their particular specialty. I often was encouraged to call them at home if I ever had questions that needed answering. With my hectic schedule with the volleyball team I missed a lot of class. The instructors were great to schedule personal office time to catch me up and make sure I had what I needed to complete assignments.
I truly loved attending Dixie and made many lasting friendships with both students, faculty, and administration.
