Fairleigh Dickinson University

Teaneck

Fairleigh Dickinson University is dedicated to the preparation of world citizens through global education. Founded in 1942, Fairleigh Dickinson has grown into the largest private university in New Jersey, with more than 12,000 students. The University offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs. In addition to its two campuses in New Jersey (the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, N.J., and the College at Florham in Madison, N.J.), FDU was the first U.S. university to own its own overseas campus when it opened Wroxton College in England in 1965. In 2007, FDU opened its newest campus in Vancouver, Canada, to primarily serve international students. The University enjoys a long tradition of overseas programs and partnerships, as well as international student enrollment, with today more than 1,000 students from over 80 countries. Among many highlights that support the University’s global mission, FDU’s first Core course is the Global Challenge, which introduces students to global education and to critical global issues. FDU features online study with Global Virtual Faculty (GVF) – now more than 60 scholars and professionals from around the world who partner with FDU faculty and, via the Internet, bring diverse international perspectives to students. Building on a close partnership with the United Nations, the University created the U.N. Pathways Forum and more than 70 ambassadors and international officials have visited the University since the program began in 2002. The University also regularly broadcasts videoconferences from the United Nations to our campuses and other universities. In addition, Fairleigh Dickinson has earned designation as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the U.N.’s Department of Public Information, and students and faculty enjoy special access to U.N. resources, people and programs. FDU also is the first university to gain special consultative status as an NGO with the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Faculty members have since gained appointment to many U.N. committees focusing on a wide variety of international issues.
