Hastings College, founded in 1882, is a private, coeducational, four-year, liberal arts college located in Hastings, Nebraska, a community of 25,000. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), the college enrolls students representing many denominational groups. Hastings College is known nationally for its success in fostering a campus environment where people work together in a spirit of collegiality, collaboration, openness and mutual respect. In 2005, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) presented Hastings College President Phillip Dudley, Jr. with the Ralph S. Brown Award for Shared Governance at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. Hastings College enrolls 1,137 students from 27 states and six foreign countries. The college confers two undergraduate degrees, the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music, and one graduate degree, the Master of Arts in Teaching. Students have two options for completing their course of study: the Liberal Arts Program and the Personalized Program. Hastings College offers a January Term between the regular semesters for in-depth study and off-campus tours. In January 2007 student groups traveled to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and to Puerto Rico, Central America, Guatemala, and Italy. Students can also study overseas through international exchange programs with universities in Russia, England, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Thailand and the Netherlands. With a student/faculty ratio of 11 to 1, Hastings College offers its students personalized attention and individual contact with professors. Sixty-six percent of classes have 20 or fewer students. Eighty-nine percent of full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members hold doctorates or terminal degrees. Our national-caliber faculty includes graduates of Harvard, Duke, Notre Dame, Rice, Purdue, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Princeton. In the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, a national survey that measures student satisfaction across a broad spectrum of college life, Hastings College students expressed greater satisfaction than did students from the national comparison group on items such as: the instruction in my major field is excellent, tuition paid is a worthwhile investment, and it is an enjoyable experience to be a student on this campus. Over the past four years, Hastings College students completed nearly 50,000 hours of service-learning on the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast, in Appalachia, on U.S.-Mexico borderlands, and locally in homeless shelters, churches and schools. For two consecutive years, Hastings College students have won the Student Commendation in Service-Learning from the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education, which comprises 25 colleges and universities in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. Hastings College?s forensics team consistently ranks in the top 25 at nationals. The women?s basketball team has won the NAIA Division II national championships three of the past six years (2006, 2003, and 2002). \r\n
