According to the school, Kansas City Art Institute is a private, fully accredited four-year college of art and design nestled between two premier art museums in one of Kansas City’s most historic and beautiful neighborhoods. KCAI is recognized the world over as an innovator in art education. The 15-acre campus, a mixture of stately mansions and contemporary studios surrounding a central expanse of emerald lawn, is home to an intimate 670 exceptionally talented students who come from 38 states and several foreign countries. The faculty is comprised of 105 dedicated and effective educators, most of whom are also practicing artists and designers, who will challenge students to reach their full artistic potential while guiding and mentoring them as they discover their own authentic voice. The college is focused on the bachelor of fine arts degree and students will work side-by-side with full-time professors, not graduate teaching assistants, beginning on the first day of the much emulated Foundation program. At KCAI students may major in animation, art history, ceramics, fiber, graphic design, digital media, digital film making, illustration, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture or studio art with an emphasis on creative writing or customize their own curriculum through the major-plus program. Regardless of the program that students choose, they will experience an environment that allows their creativity to flourish and find its fullest expression.
