According to the school, NKU is a learner-centered institution committed to lifelong public access to education with an emphasis on high quality, affordable education. Thirteen major buildings are of modern, contemporary architectural design and are set on 398 acres of rolling countryside. On campus, construction is complete for the new Student Union building which features a grand ballroom, food court, lounges and game rooms. Adjacent to campus, the Bank of Kentucky Center, a 10,000 seat arena and convention center, built last year, is in full operation. Both the new Student Union and Bank of Kentucky Center opened in Fall 2008. NKU has an enrollment approximately 15,000 students representing 43 states and 56 countries. NKU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Student athletes compete in the Great Lakes Valley conference.

Reasons to Attend
Comments about Northern Kentucky University:
Originally I chose NKU for the affordability - it's not an expensive school to start with, especially with the in-state tuition (and has a very generous definition of "in-state," applying to the surrounding areas in Indiana and Ohio as well), and on top of that I got financial aid from the school.
However, I'm glad I chose NKU, because the instructors are very good at giving personal attention to each student, and the classes themselves are very practical - good for students like me who were focusing on getting a degree primarily to get into a good job.
If you're looking for mostly theory or research, this is not the college for you. NKU is not a research university at ALL. Similarly, if you're looking for esoteric degrees, this is also not the university for you. But if you want an education grounded in the real world that simultaneously encourages you to make the most of yourself, I would highly recommended NKU.
