Point Park University is an independent, coeducational institution located in downtown Pittsburgh. Point Park enrolls more than 3,500 full- and part-time students in more than 50 majors and concentrations and seven graduate programs offered through its three schools—The Conservatory of Performing Arts, The School of Business and The School of Arts and Sciences. Since its founding in 1960, Point Park, which gained university status in 2003, has become known for providing students with an innovative, disciplined education that combines the liberal arts with career education. The University’s undergraduate programs include accounting, applied history, behavioral sciences, biological sciences, biotechnology, business, cinema and digital arts, criminal justice, dance, education (early childhood and elementary) engineering technology (civil, electrical and mechanical), English, environmental health science and protection, film and video production, human resources management, information technology, intelligence and national security, journalism and mass communication, political science, psychology and sport, arts and entertainment management. A Point Park education is a personalized one. Classes average between 15 and 20 students and are taught by an experienced faculty augmented by working practitioners who bring knowledge of the workplace into the classroom. Point Park’s unique schedule of day, evening and Saturday classes is designed to meet the needs of its diverse student body, which includes both traditional and non-traditional students. Its downtown location means the city is literally Point Park’s campus and provides numerous opportunities for student enrichment. Internships in a variety of fields, including journalism, business, government, and the arts, are located within walking distance of the University, whose central location also enables students to take advantage of Pittsburgh’s many sports, cultural and entertainment activities. To keep pace with its continuing growth and to meet the needs of its student body, the University has been expanding its downtown campus.
