Founded in 1860 by Franciscan friars, Quincy University is a Catholic, co-educational, residential university offering undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs that integrate liberal arts, active learning, practical experience, and Franciscan values. Known as a caring and engaged learning community, Quincy embraces its Franciscan heritage while promoting the values of inclusion, nonviolence, reverence for creation, and celebration. Students of all faiths and beliefs are welcomed and encouraged to grow personally and serve others. In addition, approximately 98 percent of students from all family income levels receive need or merit-based financial aid. Nestled within Quincy, IL, a city situated on limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, Quincy’s campus offers a combination of simplistic living, modern technology, and natural beauty. Francis Hall, the main academic building, features classic architectural elements with a Tower. An adjoining building houses the Main Chapel designed in Romanesque-style and 2 smaller chapels. The campus is green in the summertime and bursting with color in the fall and spring. Every resident room is equipped with high-speed Internet access and students have access to 6 computer labs plus campus-wide Wireless Internet. More than 1,500 students from 27 states and 9 other countries enroll in over 30 undergraduate majors and 4 graduate programs. Students gain insight not just from their major but from many fields of study, helping them to think critically and see issues from different points of view. Learning is grounded in the real world, taught by faculty members who are leaders in their fields and supplemented by significant internships in the workplace. For instance, nursing students practice procedures in a simulated hospital lab, prior to their clinical work; freshman aviation students fly in the air after attending school for just 2 weeks; and courses for education majors are held at area elementary and high schools. Class sizes average 20 students, where professors not only know students’ names, they care about students’ intellectual and personal growth. Our Learning Communities give students in like majors an opportunity to live and learn together by enrolling in similar courses and creating study groups in residence halls. Students in Learning Communities develop their QU-family support system immediately and become more involved on campus. Internships are integral to a Quincy education. Students intern as early as their first year gaining valuable work experience. Organizations and businesses that hire Quincy students include ESPN, Walt Disney World, St. Louis Cardinals, Archer Daniels Midland, and the National Association of Broadcasters. Our worldwide service projects teach students about society, about what it means to be compassionate, and about their values, not to mention skills in team building, organizing, and leading. Our alumni, in all 50 states and 12 countries, are eager to help new students and graduates succeed. Recent grads include a New York environmental analyst, a St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, an RN at Mayo Clinic, and a senior national accounts manager at USA Today. Graduate, law, and medical schools attended by recent grads include Carnegie Mellon, Washington University School of Law, Loyola, and the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Student-athletes compete at the NCAA Division II level in 16 sports, where academic success is emphasized along with athletic achievement. Students choose from more than 40 clubs and organizations, including student newspaper, performing arts, 3 national Greek organizations, and professional organizations. Our intramural program and state-of-the-art Health and Fitness Center are also popular. Quincy University is about learning, caring and connecting. It’s about living your education. Individual visits can be scheduled weekdays and Saturdays, and we also host group visits throughout the year.
