Saint Joseph’s core curriculum is a nationally recognized, interdisciplinary sequence of general education courses spread over 8 semesters (4 years). Through this curriculum, SJC students gain academic knowledge, superior communication skills, a broad worldview, and a strong sense of self-confidence. Exceptional emphasis is placed on the education of the whole person, achieved by the complementarity of Core to the major. A student is able to immediately study in the academic program of interest. If a student is still contemplating an academic program or career, there is great opportunity to explore a variety of subjects before committing to a specific field. Highly personalized advising helps students who follow a prescribed sequence of courses to finish typically in four years. The value of this educational investment skyrockets as students have the chance to get involved early and often at SJC. Our faculty consists of professors with proven credentials. They are committed to teaching, eager to help students succeed, and accessible to students. Rensselaer is a safe and friendly community of 5,500 residents and is within easy driving distance to major cities such as Chicago and Indianapolis (90 minutes each).
