Reflecting its 140-year mission as a Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition, St. John’s prepares students for success as ethical leaders in their professions, community and world. Extensive Academic Service-Learning opportunities allow students to gain confidence while serving others through course-related volunteer activities. Campus Ministry and the Office of Student Life offer opportunities to serve the homeless, volunteer in soup kitchens and participate in winter and spring ‘plunges’ that serve others throughout the U.S., Europe and other locations. Students also may apply for St. John’s four-year Ozanam Scholars Program, a ground-breaking effort partnering students, faculty and community leaders to address issues of poverty and injustice worldwide. All entering students benefit from quality core courses like Discover New York, which uses the city as a ‘living classroom.’ St. John’s innovative global studies programs include Discover the World, allowing students to earn 15 credits while learning in three foreign cities in a single semester. Through The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, outstanding students can apply for the ‘Executive in Residence’ program, working on projects under the guidance of a participating corporate executive. The Tobin College also offers the Student-Managed Investment Fund, allowing students to manage an actual portfolio based on funds donated by an alumnus. In addition, St. John’s 180 student clubs and organizations combine quality with a vibrant campus life.\r\n\r\n\r\n
