According to the school, Stevenson University, formerly Villa Julie College, is Maryland’s third largest independent university with more than 3,400 students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and adult accelerated degrees in the classroom and online. Founded in 1947 as Villa Julie College, the University is committed to providing a career-focused education, using its Career Architecture process to help students align their career goals with their personal interests, values, and academic coursework. Through innovative approaches, distinctive programs, personalized attention, and an emphasis on practical and experiential learning, Stevenson University links higher education to today’s job market, graduating students with the competence and confidence needed to chart their careers paths. Stevenson’s approach pays off: employment rates for Stevenson graduates have remained consistently strong despite the nation’s economic challenges. Ninety-five percent of the Class of 2009 found work in their fields or began pursuing an advanced degree within six months of graduation. \r\n\r\nOver the past decade, the University has expanded from its original 64-acre Greenspring campus outside of Baltimore to a second campus in Owings Mills, Maryland. Opened in 2004 with seven apartment-style student residences and a community center, the 100-acre campus has transformed the University from a local commuter school to a regional institution with more than 1,500 resident students. The Owings Mills campus now includes 11 student residence halls with the opening of the University’s newest residence, Wooded Way, designed to house specialized student learning communities. The growth continues with the addition of new 60,000-square-foot gymnasium and athletic complex. Stevenson recently added football to its roster of 19 NCAA Division III men’s and women’s sports, and the University’s men’s lacrosse team entered 2011 ranked No. 3 in the nation after an outstanding 2010 season. From the opening of the Brown School of Business and Leadership to the addition of Maryland’s first middle school teacher preparation program, as well as new bachelor’s programs in criminal justice and fashion merchandising, Stevenson continues to expand its offerings and embrace technology, online teaching, and accelerated learning to bring career-focused programs to traditional and non-traditional students alike.\r\n
