UNLV is a doctoral degree granting institution of approximately 28,000 students and 3,300 faculty and staff. Founded in 1957, the university offers more than 220 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs. UNLV is located on a 340-acre campus in dynamic Southern Nevada and is classified in the category of research universities (high research activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.\r\n\r\nUNLV’s distinctive programs include the top-rated William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration; the William S. Boyd School of Law; an accomplished English department featuring a highly ranked creative writing program and an international literary center; a nationally recognized honors program; a community-involved environmental studies program; accredited architecture, health sciences, social work and business schools; a physical therapy program; strong liberal and fine arts, engineering, and science programs; plus numerous research centers and interdisciplinary programs. UNLV is also home to the International Institute of Modern Letters. \r\n\r\nUNLV’s main campus, located minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip, features a 300,000 square-foot library as its centerpiece. Among the university’s newest facilities are a Science and Engineering Building, featuring more than 200,000 square feet of flexible laboratory and teaching space, offices, high-tech conference rooms and integrated research areas; Greenspun Hall, the home of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and broadcast studios for UNLV’s radio and television stations; and the UNLV Student Recreation and Wellness Center, a technologically advanced recreation, fitness and wellness facility. Additionally, the university is actively engaged in the development of “Midtown UNLV,” a long-term, public-private endeavor to create a culturally diverse university district.\r\nUNLV’s regional Shadow Lane campus stands on 18 acres in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas medical district. This campus is home to the UNLV School of Dental Medicine.\r\n\r\nUNLV’s first international campus, UNLV Singapore, will celebrate its fourth anniversary in 2010. Housed on the tenth and eleventh floors of the National Library of Singapore, a prestigious building comparable to the United States Library of Congress, UNLV Singapore offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in hotel administration and hospitality management. Additional international campuses are planned.\r\n

Comments about University of Nevada:
UNLV is a bargain when it comes to a college education, but you do no sacrifice on quality. I learned a lot from most of my professors and enjoyed my time there. I also found that my professors were more than happy to meet with me after class if I had any questions or issues.
UNLV has a large number of degrees. The degree I earned in Nuclear Medicine is a rare offering at universities and when I decided to apply to medical school, UNLV has a wonderful pre-med advisor who helped me get interviews and acceptances at top schools.
Some of the buildings are old and the parking is bad, but they are working on improving these things and this is the case at many universities. The campus is well located and has good commons areas and convenient study areas.
Pros
- Affordable tuition
- Great instructors
- Number of degree offerings
- Online classes
- Provided personal attention
Cons
- Limited locations
- Parking is a nightmare

Comments about University of Nevada:
UNLV is a great, affordable school. Because of Las Vegas's unique population, classes are offered at varied times with plenty of day and evening classes, even a few weekend courses being offered. The diversity of the school is wonderful-age, sex, race, socioeconomic status, and so forth.
I enjoyed all my professors, with exception of 2 who were there on a trial basis and did not get to stay. Class sizes were not so big that you were unknown to your professors or unable to participate and the professors were willing to help students during office hours.
The Administration at UNLV is competent. I never had any problems with tuition payments not showing on time, a scholarship being processed wrong, or any paperwork (like graduation or overload petitions) I turned in being misfiled.
The only gripe I have with the school is that more money should go towards education. Less money should go to the sporting teams, to the fancy new library (so fancy it doesn't have as many books or computers as it should), and the over the top Student Union.
