About 99 percent of in-state freshman qualify for the state lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship, which covers $4,000 per year.\r\n\r\nThe Chancellor’s Honors Program enrolls students who excelled in rigorous high school curricula and demonstrated exceptional leadership and pays their tuition, fees, room and board, and expenses. The Haslam Scholars program is the university’s premier honors program which recruits the state and nation’s high achieving students. Scholars are part of an intimate study group mentored by top UT faculty. Benefits include a $1,500 laptop computer, a study-abroad experience valued at $4,000, and up to $5,500 to support a senior research thesis and travel to present their work. Recipients also receive the Chancellor’s Scholarship.\r\n\r\nMany students benefit from the flexibility of the College Scholars program which exists for highly motivated and academically talented students with clear goals for their undergraduate education that require them to work outside the colleges’ traditional academic requirements. \r\n\r\nUT students come from all 50 states and 108 countries. UT’s Ready for the World initiative is a long-range plan to enhance the culture and diversity of the university community to best prepare students for working and competing in the 21st century. Efforts include a new endowment for study abroad scholarships, significant revisions to general education courses and campus-wide programming to reflect these goals. \r\n\r\nUT’s green initiatives have been recognized. Make Orange Green, the campus environmental effort, has been honored across the nation as one of the top campus environmental programs. The national campus report card from the Sustainable Endowments Institute ranked UT higher than any school in Tennessee and tied at the top of Southeastern Conference institutions for its commitment to sustainable practices.\r\n\r\nUT has several programs to help students succeed. The Student Success Center provides academic assistance to all students. UT LEAD and its Summer Institute provide additional support for students receiving the Tennessee Promise and Pledge scholarships. \r\n\r\nNearly 900 undergraduates now live in one of UT’s seven learning communities. From the Honors Community to groups that major in engineering, business and agriculture, each has its own rich programming and flavor. \r\n\r\nUT students benefit from the partnership through world-class research and learning opportunities.
