I chose this school for my MBA because of their specialization model. Rather than just having a few tracks (marketing, finance, accounting), there are 10 specializations to choose from. My specialization is in Brand and Product Management, which is a laser-focused subset of marketing.
The MBA program as a whole is solid in its own right, but my specialization is just awesome. With 100% placement for both internship and full-time placement since the program began in 2005, my specialization has done what it has set out to do-turn MBA students into brand managers.
Tuition is very reasonable compared to other schools, even if you're out of state. I was fortunate to receive a generous scholarship, so that sweetened the deal for me. Having completed my first year, I can truly say that going to UW would be worth every penny, even without aid.
The reason I say that is because of the doors it can open for your career. The career center here is 100 times better than where I did my undergrad (BYU). The alumni network is awesome. And the face time you get with recruiting companies is unbelievable.
Curriculum is good, but not stellar. For me, though, getting an MBA is much more valuable for the connections than the classes. So that doesn't bother me so much.
It's hard being away from family, and the winters are rough, but the people are super nice and Madison is a really cool places. It is home to the nation's largest farmers' market, Bratfest, and good sports teams (beat #1 in football and basketball last year!)
For those not in business, UW is an amazing research university with strong medicine, law, and science programs. You should definitely check it out if you're even considering a program at UW!
