As a high school English/History teacher at a college prep public charter school, I have frequently found myself reflecting upon--and sharing--the great experiences I had at Utah Valley University (then Utah Valley State College). Not only have the lessons that I learned simply about being a college student been useful to my current students, but it instilled in me a deep passion for continuous learning.
Every time I visit the campus, I wish I could return to my days as a student. I miss the days of profound discussions--round table format--in my literature classes. I yearn for the types of scintillating conversations that would so shift my thinking that I would leave the class in a fugue, a mental exhaustion that would dwindle for days, changing, shaping, and improving my mind. While I cannot say that every experience was 100% positive, nor can I say that it was so divine an experience that I never begrudged, grumbled, or even hated certain aspects of it, I can say that, on the whole, Utah Valley University more than exceeded my expectations.
Still, what I learned at UVU so affected me that I have since pushed myself into deeper philosophical and theoretical categories on my own, writing essays and analyses for my own enjoyment and expression. I may not sit in the hallways with an old IBM crooning cantankerously on my lap, awaiting the start of another class for which I was only marginally prepared, but I still consider myself a student of learning--and I owe it to UVU. Thanks to the tools that I got from my alma mater, I have come to recognize two things: 1) The more I learn, the more I know that I know nothing; and 2) I want to learn much like I want to breathe--endlessly, daily, and deeply.

I transferred to UVU to finish up my last year of college because it is located near my home in Orem, and was the most convenient option. I had a hard time transferring my credits and had to re-take almost all of my generals, pushing my graduation date back a year.
UVU has a great Communication department and since the school is so small, there are many opportunities to get involved. The best thing about UVU is that it is accommodating to all types of students: those coming right out of high school, those working full time, parents, those coming back for a second degree etc. They really push for scholarships, and the professors are generally very accommodating of personal schedules.
I have a hard time with the tiny class sizes, which usually results in lots of getting to know you games and name memorizing, but also has the benefit of building personal relationships with your teachers. The campus is small and lacks school spirit and traditions, but the attendance is growing so they have big plans to expand. UVU is not my first choice for a University, but it isn't a bad choice either. Can "meh" be a good review? :)
I am currently taking online classes from UVU and while I prefer the face-to-face interaction, I am very appreciative of the opportunity to still graduate while living out of state.

Comments about Utah Valley University:
I enjoyed my time at UVU. To me, it seemed easy to get out of it, what you put in. I made a few friends there, got my degree and moved on. I didn't really get into anything extra-curricular there, and don't know how much was offered.
The classes varied greatly in ratio of students: anything for a class that the department BARELY lets them continue with 7 students in it, to the typical 20-40 students classes, right on up to the classes with at least 100 stadium seated students.
I chose to go to UVU because it was nearby, easy to get into, and worked with my schedule. It's still building a name for itself, so you won't walk away with your degree feeling extremely prestigious, but graduating with new knowledge and skills is what really matters.
I enjoyed UVU and recommend it to those that want a casual, straight-forward school to attend. It seems like a school that will only get better with time.

Comments about Utah Valley University:
I transferred to UVU (UVSC at the time), from BYU-Idaho. I really wanted to get into BYU in Provo, but when that wasn't possible, I decided to try UVU. It was a great choice. The only real downside was the tuition. It was quite expensive (about double what I paid at BYU-I). But once I was there, I applied for some random scholarships, along with some pell grants, and it became much more affordable. Unlike BYU or BYU-Idaho, UVU is not a church school, so you find a lot more diversity (in all aspects). But between the HUGE LDS institute, and the high concentration of LDS students and professors, you still have ample opportunities for religious experiences. I attended the school of education. The professors were really good. They were really knowledgeable, and always willing to work with me. Many of them went above and beyond expectation, such as holding extra study groups, giving home phone numbers for additional help, and having an open-door policy.
I truly had a great experience at UVU, and would highly recommend it.

Comments about Utah Valley University:
I was at UVU 2 semesters and I generally liked the classes. The instructors were good and the classes were average to big in size. Having gone to 2 other colleges or Universities UVU is my lest favorite out of the 3. I would have to say that the students aren't as friendly as the other campus' that I went to. I didn't feel that the teachers I had gave individualized attention. The classes were very good and I did learn a lot from them but this university and I were not a good fit. It was more the environment that turned me off, the caliber of classes was very good.

I selected this school because it is located near my home. The University admits everyone to the school, which does have a couple of draw backs. The school is overcrowded and it feels like most students don't really care about the education they are paying for.

Comments about Utah Valley University:
I chose UVU because it seemed like a more laid-back environment than my other options, and it was. Some classes were still pretty difficult, but I never felt like a lot of pressure was on me.
The quality of the teachers varied greatly. The greatest thing about UVU instructors might be their extreme opinions. I had psychology professors who worshiped their textbooks, and others who taught that the field of psychology was nothing but politics and cursed the DSM. This was great because, as a student, I got to learn and experience several views, and these views seemed to keep the instructors motivated and engaging. It also helps that many of the instructors are still working in your field of study and only teaching on the side.
Not every instructor was great. There were the "joke" classes that were participation based and provided little opportunity for learning, and there were instructors who relied solely on slideshow presentations. After my first couple of semesters I realized the value of researching before choosing an instructor.
Overall, my experience at UVU was great. I especially enjoyed spending free-time in the new Library studying and getting to know other students with interesting life stories. I received a low-stress education that has prepared me for the diversity I will meet in the world.

Comments about Utah Valley University:
I really enjoyed attending school at UVU. I started while it was UVSC but graduated a year after it became a University! The teachers are great, I mean at every school you will find there are a few teachers that people just don't like, but for the most part all of the teachers I had were really awesome. The classes are relatively small and you feel like you can talk with your professor and they actually know your name. I didn't think tuition was horribly high, but it may have gone up a little since i've been there. I would recommend UVU it really is a great University!
