Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Established in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a private, independent institution which offers a range of academic programs for students interested in careers in health care. Each of the College’s programs offers different, but interconnected, paths for an education in health. These include: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.); four-year bachelor’s degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health and Human Sciences, and Biomedical Technology; and graduate programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Outcomes Research, Pharmacy Administration, Biotechnology, and Cytotechnology & Molecular Cytology. In addition, students may pursue joint degrees in the fields of medicine, law and business through cooperative agreements with area institutions. ACPHS also has a satellite campus in Colchester, Vermont, which offers the only Doctor of Pharmacy program in the state. Anchored by a 62,000 square foot facility, the campus is located on the eastern edge of Lake Champlain and is in close proximity to several academic institutions and health care facilities. Opportunities exist for students within each of these programs and on both campuses to work side-by-side with faculty on groundbreaking research in areas such as cancer and infectious disease. These ‘hands on’ research experiences are not typically afforded to undergraduates at most schools and are part of what distinguishes ACPHS from other colleges and universities. Students interested in research have an array of mentors and resources at their disposal, including the College’s Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI). PRI is a center for drug discovery and development which employs international experts in fields such as nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. The result is an educational experience that prepares graduates for a variety of health related careers such as: biochemist, clinical laboratory scientist, consumer safety officer, drug information specialist, environmental toxicologist, health policy analyst, hospital administrator, pharmacist, physician, physician assistant, and research scientist.
