Cedar Crest College

Allentown

With an 84-acre park-like campus in Allentown’s west end, Cedar Crest College is one hour from Philadelphia and less than two hours from New York City. The College borders an extensive park system and Allentown offers cultural activities ranging from symphonic orchestras to theatre to art museums. Cedar Crest College educates serious students for leadership roles in the challenging world of the 21st century. With the flexibility of Cedar Crest’s curriculum students combine areas of interest like art and psychology or dance and forensic science. With more than 30 academic areas, Cedar Crest has distinguished itself in several key programs. Cedar Crest’s forensic science is one of only seven accredited undergraduate programs by the American Academy of Forensic Science. The College has one of the first undergraduate neuroscience and genetic engineering programs in the U.S. In the College’s conservation biology program, students work on research projects that integrate animal behavior with conservation biology. They also travel to the Amazon, the Caribbean and the American Southwest to conduct research. The active undergraduate research program in all the sciences allows students to gain valuable hands-on experience beginning in their freshman year. The concept of hands-on is infused into the Cedar Crest curriculum, where students in the communication program use emerging technologies to produce promotional videos, design websites and explore new methods of mass communication; and in the business department where students in marketing develop and apply real-world marketing plans under the mentorship of professors and business executives. Cedar Crest???s nursing program has unprecedented success with two recent nursing classes achieving a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX exams, while the nutrition program consistently experiences a nearly 100% acceptance rate for highly-coveted nutrition internships. Students in the College’s accredited social work program receive advanced standing in graduate school (including institutions like Columbia University and Bryn Mawr College). Nearly all of the College’s education students are placed into teaching jobs at graduation. Cedar Crest also offers a B.S./M.Ed. program, which most education students can complete by adding 1 year to their Cedar Crest experience. Recently expanded psychology labs allow for greater student-faculty research, which students often present at regional and national conferences. New dance studio space accommodates the growing dance program. In addition, as a member of the LVAIC consortium, Cedar Crest students can cross-register at Lafayette, Muhlenberg and Moravian colleges as well as Lehigh and DeSales universities. Cedar Crest students intern at nearly 350 sites worldwide including the FBI, CNN, MTV, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Walt Disney World, U.S. Department of Defense, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Crayola, The New England Aquarium and more. Recent graduate placement includes Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, Princeton, and Columbia universities. The College fields teams in 8 NCAA Division III sports plus an equestrian team. The College’s national gold award-winning health and wellness program, the Health Connection, brings together the campus community for yearlong holistic programs on body, mind and spirit. With over 60 clubs and organizations on campus, all students can participate in campus activities including the national award-winning newspaper, “The Crestiad”, a wildly successful forensics team, and performance opportunities through active theatre and dance programs. Community service is also an integral part of the Cedar Crest experience, as students volunteer more than 22,000 hours in the community every year. Cedar Crest recognizes students who have demonstrated significant academic achievement through merit scholarships of up to half tuition to qualified students. In addition, students can apply for scholarships for community service, art, dance and theater.
