MSEd in Students with Disabilities
Our MSED program in Students with Disabilities (1-6) or Students with Disabilities (7-12 Generalist) is designed to prepare teachers to focus on the unique academic, cognitive, social and emotional needs of their students. Graduates will be prepared to effectively teach students with a wide range of special needs, modify existing curriculum and materials, differentiate instruction, and work collaboratively with professionals, parents and their community.
Students completing this program will earn a Master’s Degree in Education and certification in Students with Disabilities (1-6) or Students with Disabilities (7-12 Generalist).
MSED-Students with Disabilities 1-6
This program is designed to prepare teachers to focus on the unique academic, cognitive, social and emotional needs of their students. Graduates will be prepared to effectively teach students with a wide range of special needs, modify existing curriculum and materials, differentiate instruction, and work collaboratively with professionals, parents and their community.
Students completing this program will earn a Master’s Degree in Education and certification in Students with Disabilities (1-6). Students who have completed 18 credits in a specific subject area can also earn an extension to a particular subject area.
Students have the option of two different tracks. The first track is 33 credits which includes 50 hours of field experiences and 1 practicum. This is for students who hold an initial classroom certification in one of the following areas:
Early Childhood B-2 Childhood 1-6 Adolescent Education 7-12 All Foreign Languages Biology Blind Visually Impaired Chemistry Deaf Education Earth Science English Speakers Others Languages Library Media Specialist (Library Science) Literacy Mathematics Middle Childhood Physics Secondary Education Social Studies Speech and Language DisabilitiesThe second track is 36 credits and is for students who are not certified to teach or are certified in area outside of the initial classroom list above. Students will complete 100 hours of field experiences and two practicums.
Students who complete this master’s degree can work as:
Inclusion teacher Resource room teacher Self-contained teacher Students with Disabilities Teacher Leader at the building and/or district level
