EdD - Special Education
National University’s Doctor of Education with specialization in special education explores challenging legal issues that face current administrators of special education programs, especially preparation for due process hearings, as well as manifestation determination meetings. This specialization focuses on special education from a broader perspective than a single classroom, including your potential as a leader-practitioner and administrator. You will start with some advanced topics in special education and continue to explore these broader roles as they relate to analyzing data, monitoring student progress across programs, implementing programs for students with behavior-related disabilities, and the intersection of leadership, law, and finance. Throughout this program, you will construct theory-informed decisions for addressing complex problems of practice, create strategic and tactical plans to improve organizations, and develop leadership skills through the integration of theoretical constructs with professional practice. The program will prepare you for careers as school district administrators of special education programs or university positions preparing special education students at initial certification or advanced levels.
