According to the school, the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music was created by law in 1959. The famed Spanish cellits Don Pablo Casals, who had made his home on the island some years before, served as the catalyst in persuading the central goverment to asume the task of creating a conservatory as part of its on going endeveavors in support of the arts. The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is a public higher education isntitution committed to the formation of music professionals in the areas of performance, composition and music education, equipping them to follow artistic careers and to become cultural leaders of our society. The PRCM has began new programs in Jazz and Caribbean Music, Master in Music Education and Graduate Diploma in Performance and Voice. In January 2009 we moved to new facilities at Miramar. With the new facilities we will tripiclate our capacity for receiving students. Concerts are held weekly and the students receive the experience of working differents music styles specially those from the Caribbean. Music programs for the community are offered in our Preparatory School. The students from this program include pre-school students to adult. The preparatory school has a special program for high school students who want to prepare for a music career and continue college music studies in our Conservatory.
