Founded in 1830, Randolph-Macon is a selective, co-educational liberal arts college ideally located in scenic Ashland, Virginia, just minutes north of Richmond, the state capital and 90 miles south of Washington DC. The college is easily accessible from any direction, sits off of Interstate 95, has an Amtrak station across from campus and is in close proximity to Richmond International Airport. Randolph-Macon has an enrollment of approximately 1200 students and achieves its mission of ‘developing the minds and character of its students’ by maintaining a student-faculty ratio of 11:1 and an average class size of 15. The college offers a vast choice of majors and minors, has an outstanding national reputation for its exceptional faculty and academic program, and provides opportunities for students to participate in extraordinary curricular and co-curricular programs. The foundation of Randolph-Macon’s strength is the quality of its faculty. Approximately 90% of all faculty have their Ph.D.‘s. They are recognized nationally for teaching excellence and highly-regarded as experts in their area. The personal interaction between R-MC’s faculty and students create unique ‘moments of connection’ that both challenge them to maximize their potential and help build relationships that last a lifetime. Randolph-Macon offers a wide breadth of local, national and international internships in virtually every field, preparing them to use their liberal arts education after graduation to be successful throughout their lives in a myriad of professions. R-MC students are able to experience a meaningful educational experience in various careers in a real work environment and demonstrate their potential. Randolph-Macon also has an active alumni body who are engaged in the life of the college. They provide students with valuable networking opportunities, both while at R-MC and after graduation.\r\n\r\nRandolph-Macon’s extensive international education program provides students with various global opportunities. Students can study abroad for a semester or immerse themselves in another culture for one month during the college’s unique January term (J-term) program. Over 200 students (80-90% of the graduating class) travel to other countries each year with faculty members to each continent. During J-term, many students track their adventures by submitting J-Term Diaries﾿or blogs﾿that allows the reader to follow their month-long journeys and new areas of discovery. This program also affords students with the opportunity to participate in an internship or other area of study on campus. The endowed Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) supports more than 30 students each summer, allowing for equipment purchase, on-campus housing and stipend payment, to work one-on-one with faculty members on research projects in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. Students conduct research in a variety of areas and are provided the opportunity to share their findings with their peers and at regional, national and international conferences with their faculty.\r\nA Randolph-Macon education is also affordable. The college offers a competitive financial aid program to include scholarships and grants; a significant percentage of applicants are eligible to receive some form of financial assistance. Randolph-Macon is a proud member of NCAA Division III, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and sponsors 15 intercollegiate sports. Many of its teams and students are nationally-ranked and have won national championships. The college also offers a healthy Greek Life system and provides dozens of student organizations from which to choose. A majority of students are actively engaged and participate in community service and outreach programs and have raised thousands of dollars for community organizations. Randolph-Macon College’s Phi Beta Kappa Chapter received the organization’s Triennial award for the most outstanding chapter at a liberal arts college in the U.S.
