Sacred Heart University (SHU) is distinguished by the personal attention it provides its students. Popular, newly launched undergraduate programs include Fashion Marketing & Merchandising and Fashion Design, as well as Computer Game Design & Development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The AACSB-accredited John F. Welch College of Business is named after legendary former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch. New master’s degree programs have been launched in Exercise Science and Nutrition, Applied Psychology, Communications, and Environmental Systems Analysis, and the University’s second doctoral level program (Doctor of Nursing Practice) has also been launched. SHU has international campuses in County Kerry, Ireland as well as Luxembourg. The University’s commitment to experiential learning incorporates concrete, real-life study for students in all majors. Drawing on the rich resources in New England and New York City, students are connected with research and internship opportunities ranging from co-ops at international advertising agencies to research with faculty on marine life in the Long Island Sound, helping pave the way for a 96% placement rate for graduating seniors in full-time jobs and/or graduate study. These experiential learning opportunities are complemented by a rich student life program offering over 85 student organizations including strong music programs, media clubs, and academic honor societies. The University has among the largest Division I athletic programs in the nation with 31 varsity sports and 800 Division I student-athletes; in addition, over 600 students participate in the University’s competitive Club Sports program, which fields 30 teams and competes against colleges and universities throughout the region. The University’s strong performing arts program includes the new Theatre Arts Program, several choirs, and band programs including marching band, pep band, concert band among other ensembles, as well as an academic minor in performing arts. Consistent with its mission, Sacred Heart is nationally recognized leader in community service.
