Medical Billing and Coding

The Medical Billing and Coding program is a 48-quarter credit hour program that can take full-time students as little as 9 months to complete and leads to a certificate that is authorized by the New York State Board of Regents. The program is designed to provide students with the appropriate didactic theory and skills required to begin a career in a billing, office administration and management within a healthcare setting. Students learn medical office administration including patient scheduling, billing, medical office coding, insurance, and electronic health records management.

Graduates are eligible to take the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification examination. Graduates are also re eligible to enroll in our Clinical and Medical Assistant degree program if they decide to further their education to include exposure to clinical care skills.

Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, physician’s offices, public and private hospitals, inpatient and outpatient facilities, offices of other health practitioners such as chiropractors and optometrists, and in other healthcare settings such as outpatient care centers and nursing homes.
