Washington State University

World Class. Face to Face.

Research opportunities: A growing number of undergraduate students participate in research with WSU professors, present papers at conferences, and publish their research findings in scholarly journals. More than 70 graduate degree programs attract inquisitive minds from around the world. \r\n\r\nPersonal attention: A student to faculty ratio of 15:1 allows students to get to know their professors and receive individualized guidance. Dedicated advisors in the new University College help students assess their academic, personal, and professional goals. \r\n\r\nWriting program for all majors: The nationally recognized Writing Program helps students across all disciplines to become more proficient writers. It has been named an Academic Program to Look For by U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges for seven of the past nine years. \r\n\r\nHonors College: WSU is home to one of the most highly regarded public university honors colleges in the country, with a curriculum emphasizing global awareness and international impact. It immerses students in the study of international issues, builds their proficiency in a second language, and encourages them to study abroad. Professors teach courses interactively, inspiring discussions among students. Honors students complete a senior year thesis and often conduct research as undergraduates. \r\n\r\nCommunication: The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication is the only program in the Northwest that offers course sequences in all six communication fields: advertising, broadcasting, communication, communication studies, journalism, and public relations. Students gain hands-on experience at campus television and radio stations, at the student newspaper and website, and at a graphic design and publishing service for the community. The annual Edward R. Murrow Symposium brings renowned journalists and scholars to campus and connects students to industry professionals.\r\n\r\nBusiness: The College of Business is accredited at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, a distinction held by just two percent of the world’s business schools. Programs in international business, entrepreneurship, and hospitality business management are nationally ranked. \r\n\r\nEngineering: Senior design projects created through an industry partnership provide professional interaction and real-world experience.\r\n\r\nPre-veterinary medicine: Pre-veterinary students have a unique opportunity to explore the profession in the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital internship program. The medical exposure and hands-on experience helps them decide if veterinary medicine is truly the profession for them, and can also enhance their applications to veterinary school. Qualified animal sciences students with career interest in production animal medicine may seek early admission to the WSU doctor of veterinary medicine program. Honors College students may pursue a program that leads to a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree in seven years instead of eight. \r\n\r\nOrganic agriculture: In 2006 WSU became the first university in the country to offer a major in organic agriculture. Students produce certified organic vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers at the campus’ certified organic teaching farm. \r\n\r\nInterior design: The state’s only four-year program accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. The graduate program ranks in the Top Ten Best Programs in the U.S. according to Design Intelligence, a bimonthly journal for architecture and design professionals.
