The only women’s university in a five-state Midwestern region, College of Saint Mary (CSM) in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska is a Catholic college dedicated to the education of women in an environment that calls forth potential and fosters leadership. College of Saint Mary offers thirty programs of study, including courses in subjects as far ranging as education, nursing, applied psychology, forensic science, and women’s studies, with divisions in professional studies, arts and sciences, and health professions. Since 1923, CSM has remained dedicated to its original mission: the education of women for leadership, service and success. While CSM is committed to undergraduate education, graduate programs in education, the health professions, and organizational leadership enable professionals in the area to reach their career and personal goals while still working full-time. College of Saint Mary offers innovative programs unavailable elsewhere in the region. A specially designed residence hall, Mothers Living and Learning, allows over thirty single mothers and their children to live on campus while the mother pursues her degree. Education students directly teach at-risk children while learning to instruct math and science effectively in our Operation SMART program, a partnership with Girls, Inc. of Omaha. An agreement with the Peter Kiewit Institute encourages women studying math and science at CSM to enter into the engineering profession. This ‘2 + 3’ program allows a CSM student to receive a CSM bachelor’s degree in Math or Science and a Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in engineering in just five years. Over 90% of CSM students receive financial aid, and CSM has several unique scholarship programs. Through donor support, the McAuley Scholarship program provides full tuition and fees for fifteen women at any one time who are currently receiving public assistance, such as food stamps or housing subsidies, offering a true “hand up” from welfare. The Marie Curie Scholars Program, funded by a generous grant from the National Science Foundation, provides significant financial support for academically talented, but financially challenged, students who plan to study Biology, Chemistry, or Mathematics. Campus life is rich and exciting. CSM fields competitive NAIA teams in basketball, cross country, softball, volleyball, swimming, golf and soccer. The Hixson-Lied Commons offers a full-service coffee shop, comfortable chairs for studying or chatting, wireless internet, and rooms where student organizations can meet. The Achievement Center, also located in the Commons, is a place where students can build study skills, receive tutoring in a variety of subjects, and find help searching for internships and jobs. Omaha’s midtown development, Aksarben Village, is emerging just across the street from campus; soon students will be steps away from new restaurants, retail stores, and a movie theatre. Our Lied Fitness Center offers free, on campus workout facilities including a swimming pool, and the Keystone Trail and Papio Creek winds across the edge of campus, offering a beautiful place to run, walk or bike. In the classroom, students receive a high quality education that combines a liberal arts core with practical learning opportunities, career-specific skills, leadership development, and community service. Our service learning program sponsors annual winter, spring, and summer break trips where students travel to locations such as the U.S. Mexico border and Costa Rica to learn while serving. The remarkably low student-teacher ratio and benefits of an all-female setting offer the opportunity to be both challenged and empowered in the classroom. To women serious about attaining high achievement in all aspects of their lives, College of Saint Mary is a proven personal and professional launch pad that provides dynamic opportunities for leadership and personal growth within a uniquely supportive setting.
