“We want to help create the jobs worthy of our graduates.” So says Chancellor Howard Cohen about Purdue University Calumet and its strategic goals to advance student success and northwest Indiana economic development. Part of the internationally respected Purdue University system, 9300-student Purdue Calumet is based in the Chicago-suburb of Hammond, Ind. It offers undergraduate and master’s degrees in some 100 fields of study – including traditional Purdue strengths of engineering, technologies, management/business, nursing and education. Emerging, campus-based economic development centers and partnerships with cutting edge, regional employers and high tech/business incubators provide rich opportunities for faculty to apply their expertise and students to engage in experiential learning.\r\nBecause Experiential Learning is built into our curriculum, all of our students will have this exceptional opportunity. Purdue University Calumet is one of a select few institutions in the country to adopt this approach as a graduation requirement that complies with National Society for Experiential Education standards.\r\n\r\nPurdue University Calumet’s Faculty Senate has approved 90 Experiential Learning courses. For the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters, 45 courses were offered with 1,063 students enrolled.
