According to the school, St. John’s College offers a single all-required program based on reading and discussing major works of the Western tradition, sometimes called the “great books program.” The curriculum includes three years of laboratory science, four years of math, four years of foreign language (two of Greek, two of French), one year of music theory, and four years of readings in history, philosophy, political theory, theology, literature, psychology, and economics. All classes are small discussion groups, and the works are read in chronological order from the Greek period to the present over the four-year program.
