According to the school, Birmingham-Southern is noted for its strong service-learning program, in which 70 percent of the students participate, its study abroad and leadership studies programs, and its January Interim Term. A new curriculum focuses around courses developed for first-year students and culminates with senior conferences presented to the academic community. The college is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa, and the academic profile of the entering class each fall remains No. 1 in the state. Birmingham-Southern annually ranks No. 1 in Alabama and has been recognized nationally for the percentage of all graduates accepted to medical, dental, or health career programs.
