Central College is a residential liberal arts college dedicated to helping students discover and develop their greatest potential. Guided by its ecumenical Christian tradition, the college community engages in vigorous, open inquiry in pursuit of academic excellence. In recent years, Central has made a commitment to create an environment friendly community with a strong emphasis on sustainability and community based service learning. The college recently received a platinum Leaders Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating for the newly completed 57,000 square foot Roe Center classroom building. In addition two other buildings on campus have received ratings: Central’s Vermeer Science Center received a silver rating and Howard McKee Hall was the first residential building in the state to receive a gold rating. Sustainability efforts extend across campus from dining services (organic foods) to student-led recycling efforts and minors in global health and global sustainability were recently added. Committed to international education, nearly half of Central’s students study abroad at one of 8 international sites in London, England; Bangor, Wales; Paris, France; Vienna, Austria; Leiden, the Netherlands; Hangzhou, China; Granada, Spain; and Merida, Mexico.
