The College of Saint Rose is a private liberal arts college in the heart of Albany that instills students with the passion, knowledge and purpose, not only to do great things – but extraordinary things. By becoming engaged with the community, whether it is helping to jump start inner-city micro businesses or inspiring at-risk kids to pursue science and math, Saint Rose students learn of their role as citizen-leaders. Saint Rose hosts internationally renowned speakers, musicians and leaders so that our students are exposed to the exciting exchange of ideas and perspectives. Our own Jimmy Fallon, former Saturday Night Live comedian and now late night star, returned to accept his B.A. in communications which he completed through the College’s Experienced Adult program. He addressed the class of 2009 along with pollster John Zogby. With professors who are recognized scholars in their fields and an average class size of 20, students develop mentoring relationships that last long after graduation. 65 undergraduate programs ranging from the humanities to education, mathematics/sciences to business, provide many choices. Accelerated dual degrees enable students to complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years. This values-based education goes hand-in-hand with the kind of highly credentialed faculty and seminar-style classes often found in colleges double or triple the cost of Saint Rose. With one of the lowest private college tuitions in the entire northeast and more than $24 million in scholarships and grants awarded in 2010, Saint Rose is a remarkable educational experience at a price families can afford. Recent Saint Rose graduates are employed at numerous schools, colleges & companies, including the American Red Cross, Astra-Zeneca, Centers for Disease Control, DreamWorks, IBM, Houghton-Mifflin, Lehman Brothers, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Hallmark Corp., Hearst Newspapers, KPMG, MTV Networks, NBC, and VH-1 Network. Many students pursue graduate study at prestigious universities including Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Dartmouth Medical School, Duke Medical School, Georgetown Law School, Harvard, Notre Dame, NYU, Tufts Medical School and Yale University. The most significant of the ongoing investments we made this year was the Center for Communications and Interactive Media completed in January 2010. The 20,000 square-foot facility houses new TV and radio studios, a live recording studio, video and film viewing room, multimedia computer labs as well as faculty offices. One of the building’s highlights is the Showcase Studio where students learn to operate the lighting and high-tech digital sound equipment while bands of all genres perform on the elevated stage. It joins the Massry Center for the Arts and the Campus Theatre to form an arts and communications area of the campus. Perhaps the clearest commitment to the cultural life of the City of Albany is the $14 million Massry Center for the Arts completed in September 2008. Within the Massry Center’s 46,000 square feet of wireless and smart classrooms, practice and performance space, music students experience the finest sound quality as they rehearse & perform a wide variety of orchestral & choral works. Designed with state-of-the-art acoustical technology, a 400-seat performance hall, acoustically congruent but separate instrumental and choral rehearsal suites, applied teaching studios and piano keyboard laboratories. The College has also invested more than $2.5 million in land leased from the City of Albany to create a home turf for the College’s outdoor athletic programs. The Christian Plumeri Sports Complex features an NCAA level baseball field, softball field & an artificial turf soccer/lacrosse field as well as a natural grass practice field.
