IU Northwest History \r\nEstablished in Gary, Indiana, in 1963, IU Northwest is located on a 36-acre campus in the northwest corner of the state. We are a focal point for our students and the region offering nationally recognized degree programs, a diverse student body, a supportive environment, and unique cultural opportunities.\r\nThe library houses a collection of over 200,000 books and periodical volumes and 200,000 government publications. The building’s varied seating, attractive furniture, and colorfully decorated walls combine with the vistas presented by many windows to provide a pleasant, comfortable place for study and research. \r\nSpecial purpose areas include the Calumet Regional Archives, the Northwest Indiana Center for Data and Analysis, the Lake County Central Law Library, the Educational Resources Room, and facilities for the visually disabled. The library is backed up by the 7 million bound volumes and 26 million other materials in the system wide Indiana University Libraries. Books and periodical articles in the Bloomington, Indianapolis, and other regional campus libraries can be obtained quickly for students and faculty through the IUN System Services Office. \r\n
