There are some differences between regionally accredited online colleges and universities and nationally accredited online colleges and universities. We will briefly go over what it means for a school to be regionally accredited.

Regionally Accredited Online Colleges and Universities

For a more detailed description of the differences between regionally and nationally accredited institutions, please visit the article titled Nationally Accredited Online Colleges.

Regionally accredited colleges and universities are generally the larger higher education institutions such as state colleges and universities. They have a broader appeal since they offer a large variety of programs and degrees instead of specializing in one or two particular areas of study. It is also easier to transfer credits from a regionally accredited institution than a nationally accredited institution.
